The Re-Making of Us

Through an interactive exploration, this research delves into the consequences of whitewashing in the media industry by examining how it reinforces harmful stereotypes, erases diverse voices, and shapes our understanding of race in media. Whitewashing has become a common topic in the film industry, with many questioning the impact of casting decisions on both audiences and the communities being misrepresented. This paper in particular examines the ethical issues surrounding whitewashing in live-action remakes, specifically how casting white actors in roles originally intended for characters of color affects representation and cultural identity.
